A Consultancy Built Around Considered Work
Cendana Counsel was founded on the premise that good advisory work takes time and care — and that organizations deserve recommendations specific to their circumstances, not borrowed frameworks.

Where We Come From
Cendana Counsel was established in Kuala Lumpur by advisers who had spent years working within and alongside Malaysian professional services organizations. Over time, they noticed that consulting engagements frequently arrived with pre-formed conclusions — frameworks applied before the organization was properly understood.
The name references the cendana tree — a fine aromatic wood prized in this region for its quiet, enduring character. It suited the kind of consultancy we wanted to build: unhurried, specific, and grounded in what actually matters to the organizations we work with.
We are based in the Kenanga Tower in central Kuala Lumpur. Our engagements cover three areas where professional services firms in Malaysia regularly have room to think more carefully: firm structure and partnership, advisory relationships, and long-term client connections.
Our Mission
To provide Malaysian professional services businesses with advisory work that is specific, documented, and honest — neither rushed nor padded.
Our Approach
We take time to understand before we form views. We speak with the people inside your organization, not just the leadership. We put our thinking in writing and stand behind what we say.
Our Values
Discretion, honesty, and a willingness to say things clearly — including when an engagement is not the right fit for your organization's current situation.

How We Work
Standards We Hold Ourselves To
These are not policies written for a brochure. They describe how engagements actually run.
Written Proposals Before Work Begins
We do not begin engagement work until the scope, timeframe, and fee are agreed in writing. This protects both sides and keeps the work focused.
Confidentiality in Practice
Information shared during engagements is not discussed externally. We can formalize confidentiality terms in writing when that is helpful to your organization.
Stakeholder Involvement
Where appropriate, we speak directly with partners, senior staff, and key clients. Good advisory is informed by the people who understand the organization from the inside.
Specific to Your Situation
We do not apply identical frameworks across every engagement. The work is shaped by what we find, not by what we assumed before arriving.
Documented Outputs
Every engagement concludes with a written report or framework document. You receive something that lasts beyond the engagement itself.
Malaysian Professional Services Context
Our work is grounded in the regulatory, cultural, and relational norms specific to Malaysian professional services — not adapted from international frameworks.
Our Perspective
Business Advisory in the Malaysian Professional Services Context
Professional services businesses in Malaysia face a particular set of organizational questions — around partnership models, professional development, client relationships, and how they make use of their own networks of advisers. These are not problems with standard solutions. They require time spent with the specific organization and the particular people running it.
Cendana Counsel works with legal practices, accounting firms, and management consulting organizations that have established themselves in the Malaysian market and are thinking carefully about what comes next. We bring sector familiarity and general advisory discipline to each engagement, without overstating either.
The work we do is deliberate and unhurried. We think this is what organizations in professional services actually need — not quick assessments and generic recommendations, but considered engagement that respects the complexity of what they do and the relationships they have built.
